Radical honesty only:
When I started the only sound, I had no detailed ideas of what it would be, how often I’d post, what I’d write, or where I’d go from there. However, I promised myself that if I didn’t feel compelled to write, I wouldn’t do it. I didn’t want the only sound to become something I had to do because I said I was going to do it; I wanted to do keep it up because I felt compelled to. The project has been nothing but that for me thus far: a refreshing recalibration of how we use music to see the world done through writing.
That being said, I don’t want this to become something “I have to do.” With my own priorities shifting and a vaccine slowly coming, I won’t be sticking to the biweekly posts done on Mondays. You can still expect posts. Future posts will continue to resemble my and others’ reflections and promote work that aligns with what I stand for when it comes to music and mental health. You may hear from me more, you may hear from me less. I subscribe to the notion that you can’t force creativity safely and sustainable. The point is to continue making the only sound a thing I love doing.
I also would love to hear from you. Do you like this thing? Is there a topic you want me to tackle? Is there a topic YOU want to tackle? Send me an email – shealynkilroy@gmail.com
So stay tuned. Or not at all.
